SOUTHERN ACCESS PATHWAY AT ZNOJMO CASTLE

SOUTHERN ACCESS PATHWAY AT ZNOJMO CASTLE

- In the heart of the old town –
The access pathway leading along the southern wall of Znojmo Castle to the open space in front of St Catherine’s Rotunda is one of the most visited locations in Znojmo. Every visitor gets enchanted by the view that an 11th –century castle guard must have had when patrolling all the happening on the important trade route connecting the castle with the ford over the Dyje River beneath. In the narrow dale that lies just below the castle walls, which is called the Hollow or the Old Town, you will see irregular shapes of roofs and chimneys of the Old Town (or the Hollow), while straight opposite, across the ravine, our sight gets enthralled by the majestic St Nicholas’ Church, and more to the right, the two-storeyed St Wenceslas Chantry. Quite to the right there is the Dyje Valley, and the slopes of Cow Mountain across. The landmark of Znojmo, the lofty Town-Hall Tower, dominates the view on the left.
